If you're new to forklift training or looking for answers to your questions, find solutions to common inquiries.
Forklift training typically covers warehouse forklifts used indoors or on industrial sites, while CPCS telescopic handler training is for construction-based telehandlers and falls under the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS), required on most UK building sites.
No prior experience is needed for most beginner-level forklift or CPCS courses. However, refresher or experienced worker courses may require prior use or expired certification.
Forklift courses usually take 1–5 days depending on your experience level (beginner, intermediate, or refresher).
The CPCS A17 Telescopic Handler course typically takes 3–5 days for novices. Shorter courses are available for experienced operators.
You’ll receive a certificate and/or operator card from a recognised body such as ACOP or CPCS, depending on the training course you have selected.
The CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is awarded after passing the CPCS theory and practical tests for a specific category (e.g., A17 Telescopic Handler). You must also pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test within 2 years of your course which we offer free when you book your course with direct training.
Common types include counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks, and rough terrain forklifts. You can choose based on your job role or training goals.
